The Oyo state government has ordered traders, mechanics, and those operating any form of business beside the Alakia airport road interchange to Old-Ife road to vacate the road side before the weekend runs out or face sanctions.
The commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development and officials from the ministry of environment and natural resources gave the warning on Friday while on an inspection tour of flood plain areas around the Alakia road interchange.
Speaking after a discussion with some of the business operators situated beside the road, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Dr Bashir Olarenwaju explained that three months ago, the State Government issued an eviction notice to them due to the need to improve the aesthetic values and hygiene along the road especially because of its proximity to the airport.
Dr Olarenwaju, who frowned at the indiscriminate dumping of refuse on some of the flood plain areas around the interchange, stressed that the state government had prohibited such act and remained committed to ensuring a healthy state.
The Commissioner also revealed that the ministry has made an alternative provision for those engage in business activities along that axis, adding that the location would be more suitable as it has the basic social amenities to make their business atmosphere more conducive.
Some of the traders and mechanic operators agreed that the eviction was intended for their well being and agreed to comply accordingly.
