Some OYRTMA officers have appealed to Gov. Seyi Makinde and the state government to approve hazard allowance for OYRTMA officers as it is being done in some states, following the death of their colleague who on Wednesday fell from a commercial motorcycle and died on the spot.
The agency staff, simply identified as Kenny, according to an eyewitness, said the officer fell off the commercial motorcycle he arrested at Idi Ape area of Ibadan.
The eyewitness, who did not want her name in print, said that the motorcycle was in motion when the officer fell off and died.
Meanwhile, his body has been evacuated by members of the agency to an undisclosed hospital morgue.
As at press time, the Executive Chairman of the agency, Mogaji (Dr) Akin Fagbemi has not spoken on the matter, as he is reportedly busy attending to the situation presently.
The officers said: “It’s unfortunate that we lost one of our gallant officers who died on duty. He was hardworking. The circumstance surrounding his sudden death was really unfortunate. We are sad, our chairman is not happy losing one of his officers to untimely death.
“We use this medium to appeal to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde to please approve hazard allowance for us. We are exposed to dangers on the roads such as emission of gas, sunlight, rain and other environmental hazards.
“We thank Mr Governor for giving OYRTMA a facelift in less than three years. We want him to do more for us to be able to do our job effectively and efficiently. We need insurance. We pray he continues to succeed as he pilots the affairs of the state in the right direction.”
