Oyo state governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has received commendation for his generous assistance to genuine farmers across all 33 local government areas in the state.
Farmers residing in Ogbomoso South, Surulere, and Oriire local government areas received their farm inputs on Monday at their respective local government headquarters.
The distribution of farm inputs by OYS-Cares, in collaboration with the World Bank under the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), is part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to supporting farmers in the state who were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. This initiative aims to ensure food security across all regions of the state.
In a recent state-wide broadcast, Governor Makinde announced various measures implemented by the state government to alleviate economic difficulties faced by residents due to the removal of fuel subsidies. These measures include ensuring food security and improving transportation, among others.
Governor Makinde stated, “To ensure food security in the state, we will be distributing additional farm inputs to 10,000 farmers. This is in addition to the input support being provided under the World Bank assisted OYS-CARES program.”
Several beneficiaries expressed their gratitude towards Governor Makinde for these initiatives. Olusegun Ajao Moses, a maize farmer from the Owode Farmers Group in Ogbomoso South, said, “Governor Makinde has done well, and we are so grateful. On behalf of our people, we thank him for this support.”
Mrs. Adebowale Florence, a cassava farmer from Oriire local government, shared her appreciation, saying, “I’m so grateful that I’m one of the beneficiaries who received 20 bundles of cassava cuttings, 2 bags of NPK fertilizer, and 1 liter of herbicide. This support will greatly enhance my production. I’m proud to be a farmer under Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration because of his continuous support.”
Mr. Kolawole Adewumi Bamigbola, the state coordinator for Nigeria Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (N-Cares) Result Area 2, stated that a total of 90 beneficiaries, divided into two categories, received farm inputs worth millions of naira. Seventy cassava farmers and 20 maize farmers from Ogbomoso South were provided with these inputs.
In Surulere local government, seven groups of cassava farmers received 20 bundles of cassava cuttings, 2 bags of NPK fertilizer, and 1 liter of herbicide, benefiting a total of 70 farmers.
In Oriire local government, 100 farmers from 10 groups, including 80 cassava farmers and 20 maize farmers, received farm inputs to enhance their production. The cassava farmers received 20 bundles of cassava cuttings, 2 bags of NPK fertilizer, and 1 liter of herbicide, while the maize farmers received 10kg of maize seeds, 2 bags of NPK fertilizer, 1 liter of pre-emergence herbicide, and 1 liter of post-emergence herbicide.
While addressing the beneficiaries, the Executive Chairman of Ogbomoso South local government, Hon. Oyedokun Oyeniyi Timothy laud Governor Seyi Makinde for the intervention.
He said, “You can all see that this Engr. Seyi Makinde led administration in Oyo state is talk and do government, all these farm inputs before us worth millions of naira and I want to urge you to make good use of them.”
“I’m so happy for you, especially the YEAP beneficiaries for most of you thought that governor have neglected you but as you can see that this is a man that has you in mind, so I expected a lot from you because you have learn a lot about farming through state sponsored training to Nasarawa state, moreso you’re young, vibrant, able and agile, so I want you to wake up to the task ahead, I want you to make good use of these items to increase your farm products, these items were given to you to ensure food security in our state and to much is given, much is expected, so it is time for youths to tell us that you’re not lazy. Hon. Oyedokun said.
