Two die, One Injured as Gas Tanker Runs into a Truck on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

A fatal accident involving a gas tanker and another stationary truck on Tuesday has claimed the lives two persons, injuring one at Ogere along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Traffic report from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps indicated that the sad incident occurred at 7.55am on Tuesday.

The Public Relations Officer, TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, said a DAF truck had developed a mechanical fault and it was parked in front of the Romania Trailer Park, and the gas tanker coming from behind ran into it.

The TRACE spokesman stating what led to the fatal accident said the driver of the ill-fated tanker with number plate T 12001 LA was speeding and could not control the vehicle, and it ran into DAF truck.

He said a manager and motorboy aboard the gas tanker died due to the impact of the accident, while the driver sustained injury.

He added that the vehicles were travelling towards Ibadan.

Akinbiyi said, “According to an eyewitness account, the DAF truck developed a mechanical problem while on motion,  in front of Romania Trailer Park, Ogere, and in an attempt to resolve the problem (tyre), the gas tanker coming from behind, ran into it, after losing control, due to speeding.

“The motor boy and a manager.on board the Gas tanker lost their lives in the process.

The driver of the Gas tanker however sustained minor injury.”

While the TRACE sympathised with the family of deceased, it warned drivers of articulated vehicles to minimise their speed, in view of its attendant consequences.
