Meet Bushirah: Makinde’s Pick for Commissioner for Youth and Sports

The Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, who is finalising his cabinet for his second term in office, sworn in 16 commissioners last week with two portfolios still vacant.

However, Governor Makinde is yet to announce the nominees for Commissioner for Youth & Sports and Commissioner for Health, which has generated lots of speculation among the people, especially the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

According to an anonymous source who spoke to Oyo Affairs, Atunwa Bushirah Omolara is among the names being considered by Governor Makinde for the Ministry Youth and Sports. What sets her apart is her young age of 27.

Who is Atunwa Bushirah Omolara?

Atunwa Bushirah hails from Ibarapa East Local Government in Oyo State. Her father, Alhaji Atunwa, is a prominent politician in Eruwa and has previously served as the PDP Secretary and Chairman of Ward 6, Ibarapa East LG.

She pursued her studies in microbiology at the University of Ilorin, Ilorin. Additionally, she holds Master’s degrees in environmental biology and public health from the Federal University of Technology Akure, Akure.

In her past achievements, Bushirah served as the Ambassador for the UNICEF hand washing project in 2009. She was also recognized as the overall best graduating student in Oyo State in 2012 and briefly held the position of One-day Chairman of Ibarapa East Local Government in the same year.

Furthermore, she has certifications in Information Technology from the British Computer Society and has completed courses in business intelligence and data analytics, Google Digital Skills for Africa, financial modeling, valuation analytics, and Google Project Management.

Bushirah, who spearheaded the Intensive Awareness on Teenage Pregnancy initiative, has previously worked with several private companies. Her inclusion in Governor Seyi Makinde’s cabinet is highly anticipated.

In approximately two weeks, Governor Seyi Makinde will announce his nominees for the positions of Commissioner for Youth and Sports and Commissioner for Health. It is widely speculated among the Oyo PDP leaders that Atunwa Bushirah Omolara will be appointed as Oyo State’s next Commissioner for Youth and Sports.
