The Oyo state command of the Nigerian Police has on Monday allayed the fear of residents as it has beefed up security to ensure a smooth and safe independence Day celebration in the state.

OyoAffairs can confirm that today 1st of October, 2024 is Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary. The nation was granted independence by the British colonialist on this day in 1960.

According to a statement from the police commissioner in the state, CP. Sonubi Ayodele signed and exclusively made available to OyoAffairs correspondent and other newsmen by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP. Dewale Oyefeso Monday evening, the police force have teamed up with sister security agencies in creating security strategies to assure seamless safety to Oyo state residents.

The statement reads in part;

“As Residents of Oyo State join the rest of the Nation in celebrating her (64th) Sixty – Fourth Independence Anniversary, the Oyo State Police Command under the constructive leadership of CP Sonubi Ayodele, psc, in concert with other relevant sister services have emplaced comprehensive security strategies towards a successful anniversary outing.

“In the proactive nature of the Command, residents will witness high octane confidence-building motorized patrols in conformity with the assurances of their safety.

“So also, there will be purposeful surveillance duties by the Command’s tactical and intelligence asset around critical infrastructures and public spaces.

“In a similar development and in furtherance of the numerous strategic stakeholders’ meetings held with Parents, Guardians and leaders of different spheres of influence. The Command further advises residents to caution their children, wards and followers against been used as Canon-fodders to disrupt the relative tranquility in the State before, during and after the anniversary celebrations as those found culpable would face heavy sanctions.

“While the Command recognizes the right of citizens to a Peaceful Assembly under the constitution, deliberate efforts guided by Standard practices will be emplaced to prevent sinister-minded individuals or groups from hijacking the process at the various designated locations for the peaceful processions.

“Furthermore, Area Commanders across the length and breadth of the Command have been directed to personally lead convoy patrols at their respective jurisdictions in a bid to increase the layers of supervision of field operatives under their watch during this period.

“Lastly, the Oyo State Police Command wishes to assert its resolve to work with all patriotic residents of the state while maintaining public order and safety for all.
