Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, former Senate Leader, Teslim Folarin, ex-Oyo State Deputy Governor, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan, and Senator Abdulfatai Buhari on Thursday held a closed-door meeting in Ibadan, days after the emergence of Senator Sharafadeen Alli and Adesoji Adedeji as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship and deputy governorship candidates for the 2027 election in Oyo State.
Although the purpose of the meeting was not officially disclosed, sources familiar with the discussions told newsmen that the leaders deliberated on strategies to strengthen the APC’s structure across the state.
According to the source, the meeting also focused on mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 presidential election.
“The leaders are looking at how to bring all APC tendencies together in Oyo State ahead of 2027. Unity and grassroots mobilisation for President Tinubu are top on the agenda,” the source said.
The meeting of the four APC chieftains comes amid efforts by the party to reposition itself in Oyo State ahead of the next general elections.
Political observers believe the development signals a renewed drive by key stakeholders to foster unity within the party in a state where the APC has been in opposition since 2019.
As of the time of filing this report, the meeting was still in progress at an undisclosed location in Ibadan.
The meeting came on the same day some APC members, including supporters of Adelabu, staged a protest in Ibadan, calling on the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to release the results of its primary elections, particularly the governorship primary.
The protesters urged the party’s national leadership to release the results, saying the move was necessary to safeguard the APC’s future in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
The protesters, who carried placards with various inscription such as “Our votes is our Right, Release our Primary Result”, “We need Primary Election Result, “We Say no to Imposition and Manupulation”, “We demand for Primary Results”, Credible Process build a Stronger Party”, and”Democracy, Not Dictator”, among others matched across various parts of Ibadan including Molete and Oke-Ado party Secetariat of APC. Speaking with newsmen, one of the protesters, Hajia Bello Bolanle who demanded for the primary results, stated that Reconciliation Committee recently set up by the party can only yield positive results if results of the primary elections are released for members of the party to see.
According to her, all the protesters clamouring for is for the NWC of APC to release the primary results, adding that imposing candidates on members of the party will endangered chances of the party in 2027 elections in the state.
She appealed to the leaders of the party to do the wish of the massess by announcing all the primary results, not just the gubernatorial primary election resultsresults alone.
“We appealed to the President an the NWC to release the results. We are here just because of the primary election that we did in Oyo state, the national body of the party are yet to released the results.
“The presidential election that we did after that, the results have been released. They should release our results in Oyo state. We don’t want imposition. They should release it and whatever may be the outcome, we will take it.”
Also, Bolarinwa Zebora said, “We are beseaching the National Working Committee to tell us where we are going in Oyo state because they have the constitutional right to tell us the voice of the people.
“The people’s voice in the Oyo Stateis determined by the primary election, not consensus.Because what we could see now is the consensus.
“Because if it were a primary election, we should have seen results. There is no way you will send your children to school without a result, and the teacher will tell you that he has been promoted.
“We are beseeching the chairman of the National, APC National Chairman, and the National Working Committee of the National, to please and please to avail the results of the state. Let us see the results.
“Please and please. This is not the right way of doing it. If they want consensus, they should give us consensus. We should know that this is consensus. We did primary election.Where is the result? how will you in a developed countr, your say someone promoted without a result? What is the meaning of reconciliation?Reconciliation comes after primary election.
“After primary election result, where is the primary election result? Why are they constituting the reconciliation committee.”
