The Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States, Alh. Daud Makanjuola popularly known as De Damak, the Chief Imam of Ibadanland and other Islamic religious leaders in Oyo State, on Saturday declared their intentions to support the Executive Governor of Oyo State, ‘Seyi Makinde for his second term ambition.
The Aare Musulumi, who made the declaration while playing host to Governor Makinde at his residence, maintained that good governance is beyond religious affiliation.
In his remarks, De Damak said the gubernatorial election coming up next week Saturday is not about any political party, but about the candidate, ‘Seyi Makinde who has made Muslims very proud and has governed the state without any religious bias.
The Islam ambassador added that the good leadership the state currently enjoys under Governor ‘Seyi Makinde will not be truncated on the altar of religion and warns mischief makers to desist from using religion to play politics.
“He is one of us, he has been running an all inclusive government where no religion plays second fiddle to another. Makinde deserves our support again.
“In 2019, we supported you and we’ll rally around you and you will be re-elected for a second tenure in order for you to complete many of the people-oriented projects you have embarked upon which are in varying stages of completion,” he added.
In a similar development, the grand Imam of Ibadanland, Sheik Abdulganiy Abubakar Agbotomokekere said Makinde deserves commendation for what he described as the governor’s initiative of peaceful co-existence, fostering unity between the two dominant religions in the state as well as his prudent management of resources, and the visible transformation of the state in a little over three years.
“We have had governors before you, but your administration is unique by all standards. As a Christian, you’re renovating the Ibadan Central Mosque at Oja Oba, you have done well.
“You’re the governor for this term and you will still be our governor for the second term,” he added.
While giving his remarks, Governor ‘Seyi Makinde said his administration under Omituntun 2.0 will continue to uphold fairness, equity and justice where no religion is discriminated against.
He thanked all Muslims in the state for their prayers and support for his administration, adding that the gains recorded under Omituntun 1.0 will be sustained in Omituntun 2.0.
In the meantime, the event had in attendance Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Apostle Joshua Akinyemiju; CAN Oyo State Political Affairs Coordinator, Bishop Daniel Oluwajimade; Mogajis from Ibadan, Sheiks, Imams, Alfas, and Royal Umbrella.
