Afrika Future Drive Initiative Hosts 2024 Career Convention
The Afrika Future Drive Initiative (AFDI) successfully hosted the highly anticipated Career Convention 2024 at the Saki Town Hall, Saki, Oyo State, focusing on youth empowerment, career development, and leadership for students across Atisbo, Saki West, and Saki East Local Government Areas. With the theme “Empowering Our Youths: The Future of Nigeria’s Better Tomorrow,” the convention brought together leaders, educators, and experts to provide crucial guidance and inspiration to the next generation of Nigerian professionals.
The event was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Hon. Abdulraheem Muslim, Former Commissioner for Works, Oyo State, and Alhaji Gbadamosi J.A., Retired Permanent Secretary of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), who both expressed their support for initiatives aimed at fostering youth development and career readiness in the region. The Association of Model Islamic Schools (AMIS) was also duly represented at the convention.
Ambassador Abdulrahman Raheem, Founder of Afrika Future Drive Initiative, delivered the welcome address, acknowledging the immense contributions of key stakeholders and partners who made the event possible. He extended heartfelt thanks to his parents, Alhaji and Alhaja Abdurraheem, for their unyielding support, as well as to Alhaji Abdurraheem AbdulRazaq, his uncle, whose encouragement has been instrumental in his success.
Ambassador Raheem further appreciated the Oke Ogun Indigenous Youth Solidarity Forum, led by Comrade Ojedokun Jonathan, for their solidarity and active participation in organizing the convention. He emphasized that the event was a platform for young people to be equipped with the necessary skills and insights to prepare for the demands of a competitive and dynamic future. He remarked:
“Today’s Career Convention is more than just an event. It is a vital stepping stone for the young minds of Oke Ogun as they prepare to navigate their academic and career paths with clarity and purpose. At Afrika Future Drive Initiative, we are committed to supporting our youths to make informed decisions and to become leaders in their respective fields.”
Key addresses were delivered by prominent figures during the convention, including
Pastor Okanlawon, who spoke on “How Sports and Education Can Shape Your Future,” representing the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) President, Saki Chapter. He stressed the importance of balancing education and extracurricular activities, noting how sports can enhance personal development and career opportunities.
In addition, Barrister Bayo Toluwalase gave an inspiring speech on the “Importance of Mentorship and Education in Achieving Youths’ Dreams,” underlining the crucial role that mentorship plays in guiding young people towards success. Alhaji Supo Busari from BCOS Ibadan also contributed his thoughts, reinforcing the significance of community-driven initiatives that prioritize youth development and education.
Representatives from the Oyo State Government were in attendance, including Mr. Bello, Local Inspector of Education for Saki West, who represented the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, Oyo State, and Mrs. Oladokun A.O. and Mr. Eebo M.A. from TESCOM. Their presence demonstrated the state government’s continued commitment to improving educational outcomes for students in the region.
Other notable attendees included Alhaji Lawal Bayo Razaq, Alhaji Soliu Nasirudeen, Alhaji Azeez Saka Olanrewaju, Alhaji R.A. Akande (Former Permanent Secretary of TESCOM), Barrister Ajibade, and Alhaji Adesina Waheed, all of whom added their voices in support of youth-focused initiatives in the region.
The Career Convention featured interactive sessions that allowed students to engage with industry experts, learn about career opportunities, and receive guidance on making informed choices about their future professions. The convention also focused on helping students understand the importance of education as a foundation for personal and professional growth.
In his closing remarks, Ambassador Abdulrahman Raheem encouraged the students to remain focused and resilient, reminding them that their success is key to the future prosperity of Nigeria. He further noted that the Afrika Future Drive Initiative would continue to provide support through mentorship programs and youth development projects in the region.
The convention marks another milestone in Afrika Future Drive Initiative’s ongoing efforts to promote quality education, leadership development, and career readiness among Nigerian youths, in line with its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4 – Quality Education).
