Armed Robbers Raid UI Hostel, Assault Students, cart away valuables

Students of the University of Ibadan in Oyo State fell victim to an armed robbery in the early hours of Saturday when assailants raided Awolowo Hall and made off with valuables worth thousands of naira.

According to eyewitnesses, the stolen items included mobile phones, jewellery, and clothing, among other belongings.

One of the affected students, speaking anonymously, revealed that beyond losing their possessions, some victims were subjected to physical assault during the attack, which lasted for several hours.

Another source disclosed that security personnel were alerted by the victims’ distress calls and responded promptly.

Several suspects were reportedly apprehended and handed over to officers at the Sango Police Station.

Commenting on the incident, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Joke Akinpelu, confirmed that reports from hall wardens indicated that students’ mobile phones were taken by the robbers.
