Chief Judge of Oyo State Inaugurates Family Court, Appoints Lead Judge

The Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Munta Abimbola, this Monday, inaugurated the State Family Court.

The brief event held at the Family Court Premises, Iyaganku, Ibadan had in attendance top government officials, judges and lawmakers.

While inaugurating the state Family high court and the state Family Magistrate Court, Justice Munta maintained that protection of a girl child under eighteen years against early marriage and prohibition of female genital mutilation will be enforced.

In her remark, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Faosat Sanni through the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs Christiana Abosede, noted that the Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs will work with the newly inaugurated Family Court to protect the child’s rights and give children opportunity to seek for enforcement of their fundamental human rights as recognized by the constitution.

Mrs Abosede added that the Ministry of Women Affairs Rapid Response Team is currently working on a sexual abuse case of a father who defiled his 3-year-old daughter and the case is already in court while other offenders would be charged to the family court in due course.

Oyo Affairs correspondent reports that Justice Adenike Adeeyo has been pronounced the lead Judge for the state family court.
