Four Nabbed in Ibadan for Allegedly Assaulting Police Officers

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State capital has on Thursday charged four men for allegedly attacking two police officers.

The suspects, who can be identified as Mohammed Omobonike, 45, Abdulahi Akewula, 33, Idowu Basit, 25, and Alimat Muhammad were said to have physically assaulted one Insp. Edalere Samusideen of the Iyaganku Police Station.

According to the prosecutor, the defendants were also accused of hurting and abusing Sgt. Rufus Adewuyi, a different police officer, on the same day and at the same place.

The offenders’ homes were not made public, but they were charged with serious assault and assault causing harm.

Mr Philip Amusan, the prosecutor has further stated that the defendants were accused of committing the crime on January 31 at 4:30 p.m. near Idi-Ayunre Road in Ibadan, adding that the offense was against Section 356(2) of the Oyo State Criminal Laws of 2000.

However, the accused entered a not guilty plea to the accusation.

The defendants were granted bail in the amount of N50,000 and one surety in the same amount by the magistrate, Mrs O. A. Akande.

She, consequently, set a hearing date of March 3 for the matter.
