Ahead of the Southern Governors meeting in Enugu State, Nigeria, the executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde has touched down the Akanu Ibiam Airport Enugu on Thursday, 16th September, 2021.
Represented by his deputy, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan, the Governor was well received by the host Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Gburuburu) as he was treated to a security guard of honour at the State House, New Layout area of Enugu City, Enugu State.
The Governor joins the Governors and Deputy Governors of 16 other Southern States for the meeting which is scheduled to discuss issues affecting the region ranging from the ban on Open grazing to the release of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Also, the issue of the Value Added Tax (VAT) which made the headlines during the past week is expected to be discussed as Oyo State is also part of the industrial States in the South who remit these tax charges to the Federal Government monthly.
It will be recalled that, recently, Governor Seyi Makinde has been made the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) electoral committee Secretary at the national level of the party, therefore, his presence and voice at the meeting will be important not just to the people of Oyo State but to the Southern Governors of PDP descent.
This meeting, comes on the heels of previous meetings held at Asaba Delta State and Lagos State where issues of open grazing were raised and the anti-open grazing laws were agreed to be enacted by Southern Governors before 1st of September as it is expected that those earlier decisions will be reviewed in the meeting.
As at the time of filing this report, the meeting was ongoing and apart from the Governor of Anambra State, Governor Willie Obiano, every other Governor was either present or represented by his deputy and details of the deliberations are yet unknown.
