The outgoing Oyo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barrister Mutiu Agboke, on Thursday said he rejected N100 million and another $2million as bribes, offered to him to rig the 2019 governorship election.
Agboke disclosed this while featuring on Noble FM’s news and current affairs programme, Bembe Oro, anchored by ace broadcasters, Saheed Alatise and Olayemi Lawal.
The outgoing REC, when asked if he received bribe in the course of discharging his duties in Oyo State, said he did not, adding that he will never stand so low and compromise his standard at the detriment of the people.
The INEC boss called on security agencies to rise to the menace of vote buying in Nigeria and also sought for maximum cooperations from security operatives, with the Independent National Electoral Commission in future electioneering.
During the course of the interview, the outgoing REC revealed that INEC has designed a measure to prevent and resist disruption of polling units during electioneering.
He, however, appreciated Noble 107.1FM for the support given to INEC in Oyo State during his four and a half years service, as the resident electoral commissioner in the pace setter state.
The Oyo INEC’s boss, Agboke bowed out of office on Wednesday, having spent the mandatory five years tenure as a resident electoral commissioner as laid down by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
