Comrade Bosun Olabiyi has emerged as the new State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress in Oyo State.
The election which took place at the National Museum of Unity in Ibadan, witnessed a turnout of labour leaders across the country, functionaries, affiliate unions, and labour veterans.
Comrade Bosun promises his followers during a meeting with members that workers would be promoted and that the focus of leadership will be the people.
He also laments the state of the economy, which he said is to blame for the poor living conditions of the country’s workforce.
He commits to holding regular meetings, having a discourse with the government about matters impacting employees, and praying for a relationship with the government that promotes workers’ interests.
Additionally, he praised the Oyo State government for being labour-friendly, promoting government servants when it was time, and paying salaries on time.
Olabiyi promised to employ periodic meetings and dialogue with the government on issues affecting workers and pray for workers’ interests promoting a relationship with the government.
He urged other contestants to work with the new leadership in a bid to frontally address issues that affect the members.
Elected as executive members are Vice-Chairman, Comrade Oluranti Oluwemimo; State Council Secretary, Comrade Balogun Babatunde Kehinde; the Treasurer, Comrade Amb. Abioye Adeyemi; Public Relations Officer, Comrade Fatokun Ebenezer Oyebola; Auditor, Comrade Olufemi Adewumi; Financial Secretary, Comrade Kamorudeen Idowu; Chairperson of the Women’s Commission, Comrade Sotiminu Funmilayo; Comrade Olowolafe Olugbenga, ex-officio member; and Comrade Ogudamen Obummeke Ikwumma, the Women Commission’s Secretary.
After the old leadership of the union in the state’s term expired, the Oyo State chapter of the Trade Union Congress was left without significant leadership.
In the meantime, after several failed or unsuccessful attempts to elect a new leadership due to the actions of candidates for the various positions, the new leadership has now emerged.
