Reaction Trails Fuji star, Taye Currency’s Performance at Oba Ladoja’s Coronation

The coronation of Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland continues to generate buzz across social media, with Fuji artist Alhaji Taye Adebisi, popularly known as Taye Currency, stealing the spotlight during the ceremony.

Oyo Affairs had earlier reported that the event held at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, Oyo State, was attended by notable dignitaries including President Bola Tinubu, the Alaafin of Oyo, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, among others.

However, discussions online largely centered on Taye Currency’s underperformance during the coronation.

During his performance, Taye Currency sang lyrics that praised Oba Ladoja while seemingly taking subtle jabs at other traditional rulers in attendance, drawing attention from many onlookers.

Many reactions online criticized the Fuji star for singing songs that are not relevant to the event.

While many social media users described the ceremony as one of a kind, many others added that Taye Currency’s performance flawed the coronation suggesting that the committee should have invited singers like King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1) and King Saheed Osupa (KSO) who are more inclined culturally to extol the essence of the royal event.

In his inaugural speech on Friday, September 26, the new Olubadan urged President Tinubu to support initiatives aimed at the development of Ibadan ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Ladoja’s ascension to the throne represents a pivotal moment in both the cultural and political history of Ibadan.
