The Government of Oyo State, on Tuesday, advised residents strictly to observe safety protocols bordering COVID-19, due to the presence of the virus.
An advisory by the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) of the state advised that COVID-19 “is still very much around with us,” adding that residents of Oyo State must strictly embrace safety procedures even during the Yuletide.
The advisory instructed that residents of Oyo state should, at this moment, obey the direction of the state-sponsored advocacy on COVID-19, #Own Your Action, further adding that responsible living and strict obedience to the safety measures will help the state to restrict the spread of the disease in this festive season.
Mr. Taiwo Adisa, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, in a statement indicated that the advisory by the EOC equally commended residents of the state for their efforts made so far in adhering with the COVID-19 preventive regulations in the state.
The statement read: “The State Government salutes the resilience and fortitude with which members of the public have carried themselves despite all the challenges faced in the year 2020. We believe as the year comes to an end, and another year is on the horizon, the hopes and aspirations of the citizens of the state will be actualized.
“With this, it is expected that as responsible citizens of our dear state, we will continue to comply with the COVID-19 prevention measures in public places especially offices, shopping malls and outlets, schools, recreation centres, and any location outside the homes.”
The statement cautioned that in light of the end of the year forthcoming activities and festivities, visitors and residents of the state must display civic responsibility in organising social events, noting that all events must be organised in strict compliance with the COVID-19 guidelines.
The government vowed to never rest on her oars in terms of her promises to the citizens, noting, however, that residents should “share the joy and not the virus,” at the period.
“The end of year social activities which involves traveling into and also within the state will begin in earnest, a normal situation especially during a festive season like this. This is to plead with visitors and residents of the state to strictly comply with the state COVID-19 safety measures, while attending and organising any social function within the borders of the state.
“Thus, religious and community leaders, and organisers of end of year programmes including children parties and concerts, as well as owners of recreational facilities, do not forget that the pandemic is very much around and active; you are to conduct all your social functions with caution, ensuring necessary precautions are embarked upon to truncate the widespread infections in the State.
“The government of Oyo State will continue to work diligently to make true her promises to her citizens.
“Let’s make this a season to ‘spread the joy, not the virus,” the statement read while wishing all residents happy celebrations.”
