The Executive Governor of Oyo State, ‘Seyi Makinde has on Thursday commended the efforts of the Nigeria Police towards achieving a free, fair and credible polls in the state during the last general elections.
The governor, who made this assertion while hosting the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Zone 11 in Charge of Oyo and Osun States, AIG Sikiru Akande who was on a courtesy visit to the Governor’s Office in Agodi Secretariat Ibadan, also pledged to replicate the support given to the State Police Swift Response Squad, SRS, in the first 100 days of his second term in office.
While commending the efforts of CP Adebowale Williams in sustaining the peaceful atmosphere of the state, Governor Makinde pledged to support the intelligence department of Oyo State Police Command with necessary security vehicles in order to strengthen the state security architecture.
Earlier in his remarks the AIG, Sikiru Akande said the purpose of the visit was to officially present himself to the Governor as the new AIG in Charge of Oyo and Osun States and to congratulate the Governor on the landslide victory he recorded during the last Governorship election in the state.
While describing Governor ‘Seyi Makinde as an epitome of good leadership that portrays the pacesetting messages in Oyo State anthem, AIG Sikiru Akande also used the medium to appreciate various supports the Oyo State Police Command has enjoyed under the administration of Governor ‘Seyi Makinde, which included regular donation of security vehicles to the Oyo Police.
In his words while speaking with journalists on the purpose of his visit shortly after meeting with the governor, AIG Sikiru said, “It is very customary when you come to a place, you familiarise yourself with the people who calls the shots within the community. Without them, there’s no you, without the people there’s no Nigerian Police Force.
“I came to see the Excellency, the Governor of Oyo State to let him know that I’m officially posted as the AIG, and I came here to seek his co-operation.
“He gave us an enabling environment whereby election in Oyo State was adjudged as the most peaceful all over the country, it’s a big accolade for all of us who are part of the architecture to achieve that goal, so you have to say thank you to whoever help you in achieving this feat.
“We are going to another level of administration, we need to assure him that we are hundred percent behind him so that he can focus on the development of the state, that’s the reason why we are here.
“We don’t need to start talking, we are not a noise makers, if we achieve success with elections, all other minor criminalities will be dealt with, and we have a different template with our technological approach to solving problems.
“People of Oyo State should go and sleep with their two eyes closed and be rest assured that the police will be on top of their game,” the AIG added.
In the meantime, other attendees at the event included the Chief of Staff to Governor ‘Seyi Makinde, Hon Segun Ogunwuyi, Oyo State Commissioners of Police, CP Adebowale Williams, the State Security Political appointees, among others.
