Residents Rally Round for Help as Mentally Unstable Woman Delivers Baby Unassisted in Ibadan

It was an astounding scene on Monday around Olodo under bridge in Ibadan, as a mentally unstable woman delivered of herself a beautiful baby girl.

The woman assumed to be in her late 40s is said to be a regular face around the area.

Residents and passersby were said to have come to her rescue after sighting the situation, and further separated the baby from her for proper medical attention.

Confirming the development, a resident of the area who identified himself as Wale Adeoye, told BCOS news he learnt that one of the residents had taken the baby to Oriyomi Hamzat’s station.

He added that woman was given medical attention for her pains and leg sore at the general hospital Kumapayi, where she was later discharged in the evening.

A resident, Mrs. Olawunmi Gold, who witnessed the incident and helped take care of the mother of the baby informed that the said woman delivered near her house without the help of anyone, after which she prepared food for her and with the help of others, bathed her and changed her clothes before taking mother and child to a maternity nearby.

Another resident who assisted in taking care of the baby informed that the little one had jaundiced eyes and issue with the tongue, which they had complained to the medical officials to attend to.

She added that they had to take the baby to Oriyomi’s station on time for the fear of the new born being snatched away by “yahoo boys” or ritualists overnight.

Speaking on the development, the Chairman of Agidigbo FM, a private radio station in Ibadan, Mr. Oriyomi Hamzat confirmed that the baby was brought to his station and that she is in a stable condition, while plans are underway to inform and hand over the new born to the appropriate authorities.
