Oyo State Police Command has launched a full investigation after armed hoodlums stormed a Nigeria Immigration Service Passport Office in Ogbomoso, assaulting officers on duty and making off with a G3 rifle.
The attack took place on Tuesday, 2nd June 2026, at approximately 8:45 p.m., when a gang of about five assailants scaled the rear perimeter fence of the facility, which backs onto a large expanse of bushland.
According to reports, two Immigration officers who were on night duty bore the brunt of the assault. The hoodlums set upon them with sticks and other dangerous weapons before seizing a G3 rifle along with its ammunition.
The raiders did not stop there. They also carted away a mobile phone belonging to one of the officers, a generating set, and a motorcycle battery before fleeing through the same route by which they had entered.
Both injured officers have since received medical attention and are reported to be in stable condition.
In a press release shared on the Oyo State Police Command’s official X (formerly Twitter) page, the Command confirmed that the preliminary investigation revealed that the assailants “gained access to the premises through the rear fence bordering a large expanse of bushland”
According to the post, tactical units have since intensified operations in the area. The Command stated that “surveillance and tactical teams have intensified operations within and around the area, including the combing of adjoining bushes and likely escape routes, in a determined effort to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the stolen firearms.”
The Oyo Police’s X page further disclosed that intelligence assets and informants have been activated, with the Command working in close collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service and other security agencies. A joint task team has since been constituted between the Commissioner of Police and the State Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Oyo State Command, to strengthen coordination between both agencies.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, who has directed all operational and intelligence units to deploy every available resource, sought to reassure an anxious public. “The Command remains resolute in its commitment to protecting lives and property and preventing criminal elements from gaining a foothold within the State,” he said.
