The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 7th, and Monday, April 10th, 2023, as public holidays in preparation for this year’s Easter celebrations.
The statement was released on Wednesday in the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, and announced through the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Shuaib Belgore.
In the statement made available to the press, the Minister urged Christians to imitate the principles and behaviours of Jesus Christ as shown by His earthly ministry, including self-sacrifice, unity, forgiveness, kindness, love, peace, and patience.
He also encouraged Nigerians to pray for an end to the security issues that still exist in some areas of the nation and to support the work that the security services are doing to maintain stability and protect people and property.
“Security is everybody’s business. I, therefore, urge Nigerians and foreigners resident in our country to display a high sense of citizenship and public spiritedness by supporting the efforts of all security agencies in bringing peace and security of lives and property of the citizenry,” he said.
The Minister reassured citizens that the government was taking all necessary steps to ensure a smooth transition of power following peaceful elections.
He, therefore, concluded his statement by wishing all Christians at home and abroad a joyful and peaceful Easter celebration, urging them to show love to their neighbours through acts of kindness and generosity.
