LAUTECH Finally Pulls Out of ASUU Strike, Directs Staff, Students To Resume Next Week

The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has announced its continuation of the first semester of the 2021/2022 academic session.

In a statement released by the Registrar of the institution, Dr Kayode Ogunleye, the staff and students of the institution to resume on Thursday, May 26, 2022.

The statement disclosed that the resumption is to continue the academic activities for the First Semester of the 2021/2022 Academic Session.

“Upon the directive of the Visitor to the University, the Management hereby informs all staff and students that the University will continue its academic activities for the First Semester of the 2021/2022 Academic Session on Thursday, May 26, 2022

“The amended Academic Calendar for the semester will soon be made available.

“Staff and students are hereby enjoined to abide with this directive.

“On behalf of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof M. O. Liasu, I welcome all students back to the campus and wish them a crisis-free semester”, the statement read.

Oyoaffairs had earlier reported that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Ladoke Akintola University chapter said the union would not withdraw from the ongoing strike action embarked on by the Union.

This came after calls by the Students Union Government that the union should withdraw like some other state universities.

The Coordinator, Ibadan chapter of the Union, Professor Oyebamiji Oyegoke, stated that the current infrastructure face-lift which LAUTECH enjoys and TETFUND grants which its staff want, are products of ASUU struggles without which the Institution will not be able to have a semblance of a University.

He noted that “that LAUTECH branch of ASUU is actively involved in the current twelve weeks roll-over strike alongside our national body is to draw the attention of Federal Government of Nigeria on the need to implement the Renegotiated Agreement which FGN signed with ASUU in 2009. Other pertinent issues included in the agreement include Improved salary/working conditions for members; stoppage of the proliferation of State and Private Universities; unacceptable use of IPPIS as a salary payment platform; adoption of UTAS as a good salary payment platform; funding for Revitalization of Public Universities; to mention a few.”

Meanwhile, Students of the institution have taken to the social media to wish themselves a happy resumption and thank Gov. Makinde for the prompt intervention.
