Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has revealed that his relationship with Agidigbo FM Boss, Oriyomi Hamzat, won’t interfere with the call for justice in last week’s Ibadan stampede case.
OyoAffairs reported that no fewer than 35 lives, mainly minors, were lost last week during a children’s funfair and Christmas package event that led to an unfortunate stampede.
Following the tragic event that was held at Islamic High School Bashorun, Ibadan, at least 8 people were arrested, including the convener of the Wing Foundation, Ex-Queen Naomi Silekunola, the principal of the said school, and 6 others.
The court, in a ruling earlier today, however, remanded the convener and radio boss.
In reaction, Oyo State Governor noted that no life is more important than another. He added that some of the children who met their unfortunate end at the event would have been future inventors and great leaders.
Makinde added that the state is committed to fairness and justice, noting that the state earlier this year initiated the Rule of Law Enforcement Authority to ensure justice prevails across the state.
“Innocent lives were lost, some of them could have been future inventors, presidents, and governors.
“Social media users were of the opinion that justice won’t prevail because Governor (Makinde) knows Oriyomi Hamzat, but I said they probably don’t know who their governor is.
“We will get to the point where we temper justice with mercy. We will get to that point, but if my child had been involved, it would be different. No child is more important than the other.
“When I was in MAICON, I noted that the life of everyone is important, and no life deserves this. We are equal before God when it comes to life. The life of my driver is as important as mine.
“Earlier this year, we signed the Rule of Law Enforcement Authority. We want our state to look like abroad, where every system, including law enforcement, is working.
“Going lawless is one of those things that impedes our growth and development. In this case, we will follow the process, and under my watch, justice will prevail.” He noted.
