Webometrics Ranking: UI Emerges Best University In Nigeria




The University of Ibadan (UI) has been adjudged as the best university in Nigeria by Webometrics in its latest rating.



Following closely in the university ranking are: Covenant University and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) occupying second and third respectively.


The Nigerian premier university, though crowned as the top university in Nigeria, ranked 1,196 in the world while Private-owned Covenant University, was rated 1,314 in the world and OAU, third in Nigeria, was ranked 1,503 globally.



The University of Nigeria (UNN) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) emerged fourth and fifth in Nigeria respectively.

According to the assessment of Composite Indicators and Web Impact Factors, Webometrics is the “largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institution

“The original aim of the Ranking is to promote academic web presence, support the Open Access Initiatives for increasing significantly the transfer of scientific and cultural knowledge generated by the universities to the whole society.

“In order to achieve this objective, the publication of rankings is one of the most powerful and successful tools for starting and consolidating the processes of change in the academia, increasing the scholars’ commitment and setting up badly needed long term strategies,” Webometrics said on its website.
